thanksgiving in sacramento

Do you already have your Thanksgiving 2022 mapped out? Thanksgiving in Sacramento is a family affair, so spend it well with your loved ones. Enjoy parades, shopping, dining, and special events all over Sacramento on Thanksgiving weekend. Here are some of the best things to do on Thanksgiving in Sacramento:

Join Sacramento’s longest-running tradition

Celebrate the holidays with the community and become a part of Roseville’s longest-running Tradition. Just 23 minutes from Sacramento, bring your family to Roseville’s Downtown for the 61st Annual Sylvia Besana Holiday Parade this November 19, 2022, and get ready for a day of family-friendly fun with a parade of equestrians, floats, and dance teams, plus craft booths, food, Santa, and more. The vendor booths for crafts and food will open at 9:30am, and the parade will start at 10:30am. The parade bands will line up on Bulen Street alongside The Rock, entries with horses will line up alongside The Rock, and all other entries will line up on 6th and Vernon streets. The parade will end in Roseville Square’s north lot behind Roseville Commons. For more details, visit their website.

Make running a family bonding

Aside from volunteering in the local community, running or joining a fun run can be one of the things to do on Thanksgiving you can do with your family and friends. The best part of these thanksgiving events is that you can get to donate a portion of your registration to feed a family or buy others their turkey dinner. Here are some of the thanksgiving activities you can join:

  • Run to Feed the Hungry

Tag your family and friends and join in the largest Thanksgiving Day run in the country, Run to Feed the Hungry. All proceeds from the event will go toward providing food to hungry Sacramentans. You may participate by running or walking the 5K or 10K, making a donation, or organizing your own fundraising event. Approximately 220,000 people visit one of Sacramento Food Bank’s partner agencies each month for groceries—that’s 1 in 5 Sacramentans! This year alone, the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services distributed more than 35 million pounds of food. Run solo, assemble a team and participate or run virtually -help fight hunger in the community by participating in this event.

You can also donate directly to the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services without registering for the run. Click here to donate.

  • 2022 Gobble Til You Wobble

Make your Thanksgiving 2022 more worthwhile and rewarding by signing up for the 2022 Gobble Til You Wobble virtual race. Run, walk or gobble your way through a different distance while feeding others. 15% of each registration will go to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. For $18, you will receive a medal, bib, and donation to the charity upon completion of your event. Medals and bibs will begin shipping out in mid-October 2022.

Imaginarium: Light Up the Night at Cal-Expo Sacramento

Light Up the Night will take you back to your childhood. Opening on November 18, see and experience more than five million lights, mazes, rides, shows, and other activities at this early holiday festival in Sacramento. Bring your family and friends and let them immerse in this captivating holiday experience. This family-friendly activity gives you an awe-inspiring experience, especially for the kids, as they roam free and look at the millions of LED lights. The dazzling light shows synchronized with music and laser shows lighting up the night sky will be among the best activities to do with kids during Thanksgiving 2022. ASI will also host a Thanksgiving Food Basket Food Drive from October 24 to November 4. Your monetary donations will be used to purchase turkeys for food baskets. With every $40 you donate, you can buy a turkey. The ASI Student Engagement & Outreach office is located on the first floor of the University Union, Room 1240.
